Toast and Company - East De Pere, WI

There’s something to be said for having a weekday off work. I don’t get to do it often, but my husband and I took a Friday off together to recharge before the holiday. That day took us to Toast and Co., a brunch location in East De Pere that I’ve kept an eye on for quite awhile. Plans of all kinds got in our way from making a visit for months now, but not today. I insisted we go, so we went with the free time available to us.

Even on that Friday morning, we arrived at nearly full tables and customers awaiting coffee to take with them on their way out to work. We got a small two seat in the back of the restaurant and patiently awaited our turn. The staff was thin for the busy morning, especially when someone is needed at the coffee bar, the front desk for to go orders, and to wait the tables. The woman waiting the tables was on her own.

She took great care of us however. Once our coffee arrived, she made sure to get us our cream, oat milk, and sugars. The coffee is bottomless when you’re staying for brunch or lunch, so come prepared to have a few cups. The roast on the coffee that they serve for this purpose is right on the line, very smooth compared to some other roasts in town. It is among my favorite cup of coffee I’ve had.

It wouldn’t be a brunch without cocktails, so my husband and I ordered their Chai Old Fashioned to share. Since moving to Green Bay, I’ve become something of an Old Fashioned aficionado. If I can get a good one somewhere, that location rises. Toast and Co. provided an Old Fashioned with an amazing spice background by the introduction of the chai, and I wound up claiming it for myself after a few sips between my husband and I.

Our actual meal arrived after a short wait with our coffee and cocktail. I ordered their huevos tostadas after being on a breakfast tostada kick at home for the last few weeks. They do it better than I can. The vast majority of the spice is introduced as part of the scramble and their house hot sauce. It is balanced out beautifully by the avocado slices on top and the crema beneath it. The pop of sweet corn in every other bite rounded out the entire experience. It may be what I order for every visit here on out.

My husband had a hard time deciding on what he wanted from their wide variety on the menu and opted for an omelette. It disappeared from his plate. The make your own omelette option provides a lot of choices for diners, and he struggled to make his choice even once he decided on going for it instead of any of their signature egg benedicts. He seemed very pleased with his choice, and I expect he’ll also be invested in their omelettes.

Brunch is a big part of the dining experience in modern restaurants, and Toast and Co. has taken it beyond many of my expectations of brunch in Northeast Wisconsin. The menu is innovative and creative while still paying homage to the classics on a brunch menu. My only regret is not visiting sooner. It is far too close to home to not spend more time at those tables than I have.

You can get a look at that innovative and often locally sourced menu on their website and follow their facebook page for any updates regarding hours and specials. Their specials are on the wall when you arrive, and those that were there during our visit nearly tempted us off the regular menu. Their creativity is always at work, and that’s a special part of restaurants that can’t be overlooked. We have friends visiting over the new year, and I’ll be damned if I don’t get them in the doors before they leave.

Thank you to the staff at Toast and Co. for a delicious meal. You’re providing a delicious experience for all of your customers in a very hard time for restaurants
