Narrow Bridge Brewhouse - Green Bay, WI

Let’s face it: I don’t know much about the west side of town. I know so little about it that when my husband’s coworkers suggested we get a bite to eat at Narrow Bridge Brewhouse after the Brews, Bistros, and Bonfires event at the Botanical Garden, I had no damn clue what they were talking about. The bar was proverbially around the corner from us, so there was no reason to say no. I had boundaries to push, so I pushed them. We arrived as the sun finally set and darkness descended on Green Bay, and we found a busy outdoor bar.

Open garage doors revealed the secondary bar to the outdoor seating area, and we began our night there. The main building looked busy from where we stood-- Fish fry patrons finished their meals and live music played loud enough you could hear it through the windows. It made for the perfect stop for another beer and maybe a burger to cap off a fun evening with some new friends, or at least new to me anyhow.

We enjoyed a round of beers before getting a table outside where things were a little quieter. I ordered simply: a burger and an extra fry basket. Their burgers were not so simple, however, and I ordered the most unusual one on the menu. Their whiskey old fashioned burger comes with whiskey spiked cherries, cheese curds, spinach, and a nice garlic aioli all served on a pretzel bun. The addition of the cherries seemed the least likely to work in a burger situation, and I had to know.

The cook on the patty itself is hard to beat anywhere. A nice hard crust on both sides, and yet the interior of the patty remained juicy with a medium cook. I was surprised to find that the sweetness of the cherries created balance with the aioli and the cheese, helping cut through the fattiness of the other toppings and the patty itself. The provided pickle had backup in that department for once!

French fries remain my method of deciding the real quality of a bar, however, and even though the burger came with fries, I needed that fry basket to get a good idea. Narrow Bridge is one of the first places I’ve ever gone to that serves a MIXED fry basket with multiple types of fries involved in the party, and that same fry mix is served with all sandwiches and burgers. Sidewinders, crinkle fries, waffle fries, and straight fries all in one little basket-- and they had a nice crunch on the first bite with an appropriate saltiness level. I’d go back for a beer and a fry basket any day of the week.

Narrow Bridge proved to be a fun location off of my usual beaten path to enjoy an evening with friends and get to know some new ones. We ate well and drank well. Their servers and bartenders were friendly and approachable-- a huge plus for a shy little thing like me. We’ll be back again soon. You can view their menu on their website to plan your own visit. They also announce specials on their facebook from time to time. Go give them a like and let them know Eating Normal sent you.
