Finding Comfort at Sticky Fingers Cafe - Kaukauna

10/13/2022

The first true Fall morning of September, I bravely got in my car to drive down to Kaukauna to enjoy the Produce with Purpose Open House. I turned away from the Green Bay Farmer’s Market early in the morning when I had a strong sense of purpose. That sense of purpose didn’t last long. I hate driving. I have several chronic health issues that sometimes make me scared to leave town on my own.

It scared me so much I spent the entire drive to Kaukauna having a panic attack, and I pulled into the downtown area in search of a nice breakfast to help me come down. I stumbled upon Sticky Fingers Cafe, open early enough for someone like me just trying to find a comforting meal and a safe place to relax. When I found them, two other people were on their way out with coffee in hand.
I very well may have been the first to order food, and it took me awhile to decide. Their menu allows for eaters of any kind to find something to satisfy their cravings. The cinnamon roll was very enticing, but I opted for the breakfast pizza after reading the list of ingredients. Asparagus, spinach, sunny side up eggs, and cheese all baked on top of naan bread sounded like the perfect combination of flavors to bring my nerves down.

Coffee probably wasn’t the wisest choice in my state, but I ordered their house blend anyhow with a splash of oat milk. With the dark glass in hand, I sat by the window to stare out into the overcast morning in Kaukauna for my first visit. I have the opposite issue with seasonal depression– that sky made me happy. Warm coffee in my hands made me happy. I started to feel better while I waited on my breakfast, listening to the staff discuss the early morning carry out coffee order going on behind me.

Other people didn’t appear to share my feelings on the gloomy morning outside, and I remained the only person eating in the cafe. I was alright with that, especially when my breakfast pizza arrived. It looked exactly like what I hoped for, and the taste of it rose to the expectations. The shaved parmesan packed a punch of savory flavor on top while the crunchy edges and savory greens trapped beneath a blanket of cheese and egg yolk further soothed my nerves and prepared me to go out into the world again.

And that’s all a girl can expect from a good cafe. I’m not often in the area, but my quiet morning at Sticky Fingers was exactly what I needed. I would easily recommend it to anyone else stopping in Kaukauna while they’re traveling in the Fox Valley region, or if you’re looking for catering, you can give them a call! Don’t just take my word for it, FOX CITIES Magazine awarded them a Silver Fork in their Best Diner/Cafe category. Clearly, something good is going on in there.

Thank you to the staff that morning for the delicious meal and the comfortable environment to shake off my travel nerves.
