So, we had some company at the end of October. The best part about having company is exploring the food scene nearby, and the best part about doing that now is that we don’t have to fight seasonal visitors to get down to Rehoboth Beach. Saturday, we visited Blackwall Hitch for lunch. I’ve wanted to go there for a long time. It’s a beautiful restaurant on the outside, which is what initially caught my attention during my first walk through Rehoboth Beach. On a nice day, they can completely pull open the front windows to expose the whole of the restaurant to the outside air. The inside is just as pretty as the outside, all wood finished and dark. It’s not all looks, though. We started our meal with flambeed crab dip and naan bread chips on the side. They bring the dish to you and flambe it tableside, which is such an experience. It’s a little flame, but very impressive as the cognac goes up and burns off. You don’t get much of the taste out of it, but the dip itself was lovely. There was more crab than cream cheese, which is always a good sign when it comes to crab dip. The naan chips were an interesting accompaniment as opposed to crackers or tortilla chips. They melted in your mouth with the dip. And then, there was the Chesapeake flatbread, part of their ‘flatbread/pizza menu’. As you might expect, there was plenty of crab meat and seasoning over the top. It was dotted with shrimp, pieces of chicken breast, and tomatoes. I freakin’ loved it. The flatbread itself was crunchy, and the cheese melted over the top went over so nice with the seasoning. I think I’ll be getting it again when I go back. Other than what I ate, they have a spectacular specialty drink menu with a cocktail for everyone. We arrived just a week before their fall menu change, so I’m sure that during our next visit, there will be many different things to check out. To me, Blackwall Hitch is what’s good about food in Rehoboth Beach: it changes, it delights, and its damn good. So, we had some company at the end of October.
