The only good thing about a big move like the one I made to Wisconsin this month is the discoveries you make along the way, and one of those first big discoveries for me in the Green Bay area just happens to be a little ways down the road from me, Nala’s Cheese and Wine. I discovered this little gem just by looking around on google maps to see if there was anything interesting near me to check out when I went looking for groceries. Nala’s was in the complete opposite direction of the Aldi that I now choose to do most of my shopping at, but their website had me very intrigued. I’ve had so much time the last few weeks to do whatever I want since I am still looking for a day job, so I got in the car and ran down to check out the little cheese shop that I spotted on google maps to see what it was all about. I got in very early, so I was the only person there other than the clerk. This made for an interesting and intimate shopping experience that I’ll remember fondly for a very long time.

![]() Whoa, hold on, an original recipe? Yes, that’s right. We’re doing this again. This week, I had a lot of time to myself which lead to trying something I have never done before: making my own chicken stock. Even as I type this out for you now, I have a hard time deciding if I made stock or broth, since most of the pieces of chicken I used still had some meat left on them. Indeed, I had a whole leg in there with my discarded pieces from earlier in the week to make sure I used every ounce of chicken in my fridge. If for no other reason than the heavier nature of the Normal Chicken Stock, we’re going to call it a stock regardless of the amount of meat salvaged from the whole chicken leg I used to get the flavor into it. This recipe is purely for using up bones or bits carved off from the chicken you use on a regular basis, whether it be a whole chicken or leg quarters. You just need stuff with the bones in it. Hey, folks. It’s been a bit. Good news is that I am safe and sound in Green Bay, Wisconsin watching my first northerner snow fall outside my living room window. Now that we are settled into our new place and unpacking, I am finally able to sit down and continue the farewell series I planned before the move. Today, I wanted to acknowledge some of my favorite meals and restaurants that I experienced on and around the Delmarva peninsula. While I don’t know if I will ever go back, these establishments deserve the acknowledgement of providing my better food experiences in a region known for amazing seafood. You’ll be surprised by how little of it is actually seafood. Please keep in mind that these acknowledgements are in no particular order, but many of them have had short articles written here on Eating Normal in the past. Each title header will be a link to an older article when it is available. Without further ado, here are some of my favorite things I ate on Delmarva. I am a notorious snacker. My desk at work has at least three options for me at any given time. When NaNoWriMo, AKA National Novel Writing Month, comes, I start to replicate this at home. It’s a problem. This isn’t good for me or anyone really, especially when they’re seated all day at work. My waistline suffers enough this time of year, what with Thanksgiving and Christmas just on the horizon.
This year, I wanted to avoid the trap I fall into so many times, so I’ve done some research on snacking alternatives. There’s just no way for me to completely cut out snacking. Plus, the Halloween candy just went on sale! The temptations are even greater now. What’s a girl to do? Well, I had a few ideas that I've implemented during this incredible time where the stars have aligned to give me time off in November while I'm in between jobs. |
