Hot Maryland Crab Dip

8/21/2024

If I went out to eat while living in Delaware, the only thing I wanted from an appetizer menu was a pot of crab dip. Some people might consider this mixture of mayonnaise, cream cheese, and crab meat an abomination. It goes against the no cheese with seafood rule, but no one breaks that rule better than the folks of the Delmarva peninsula.

Now that I live in Wisconsin, crab dip is a rare treat that I have to actively seek out and make myself. The canned crab in the Midwest can’t compare to the quality of what you can get in the motherland of this delicious appetizer, but the combination remains a comforting, unique addition to any table.
This recipe can be doubled to feed a larger crowd. However, consider making this smaller version for gatherings that may already have a large variety of other tasty nibbles– or keep it for yourself and snack on it
@eatingnormal This crab dip is another fond memory from my time on the Delmarva Penninsula, and in a smaller vessel like this, perfect for just a few people (or yourself if you're greedy like me). Enjoy a cheesy, spicy mess that violates the no cheese with seafood rule. #eatingnormal #crab #cooking #recipes ♬ original sound - EatingNormal

Cherry Tomato and Goat Cheese Galette

The cherry tomatoes coming from DC Farm for Vets have been at the top of my shopping list for weeks now, and I have normally been consuming them as part of a salad or on top of some tacos or nachos. This week, however, I let my container start to go too far. How could I best use the remainder before they were unusable without invoking the ghost of the viral feta pasta?

I saw the key to the puzzle in my cheese drawer– garlic and herb goat cheese. Thus, this savory galette was born. I will say that it does not refrigerate well, so if you make it yourself, it may be best shared with a crowd. The ingredients are simple, and I find them in my fridge often enough that I may wind up making this next time I have company.

Full recipe below the break!

@eatingnormal Delicious, seasonal, simple. This tomato and goat cheese galette is a great way to use up your cherry tomatoes while you still have them. Delicious, seasonal, simple. #recipes #tomatoes #galette #baking #cooking #greenbay ♬ original sound - EatingNormal
